"Welcome To  "Paddleballmag"

Two thousand twelve "here".  Another year, what will the future of One Wall Paddleball be?  Wasn't this the question for Two thousand eleven? Before I start ranting about the sport and yesterday, I wasn't going to update this page. But I spoke recently with a old friend of mine that somehow inspired me from our conversations about this sport, that prompted me to want to write something.

Without dropping names, his words about memories of this great game made me feel like with some positive ideas and promoting two thousand twelve could have a few good tournaments. Perhap spear a little comeback of what appears to be a dying sport. All so sad. Was it about twenty years ago that we were flocking to the parks and courts to play One Wall Paddleball? Was it that long ago that Spalding made the "green ball" and after how many years did it take to perfect the right ball.

Marcraft Paddles gave way to The Paddle Company, But still great paddles. Organizations born and died. Traces of what some players hope to be the beginning of a great comeback. Remembering the 80's & 90's for some is a hard pill to swallow. There were so many events going on.

People say "what happen to the sport" ? Why did it disappear? Did everyone suddenly like in a movie just stop playing? Everyone has an opinion and a idea. But we all know the answer! We as players and enthusists didn't promote the sport. We didn't teach it to our children, we didn't support the game. We just played it! It's no one's fault!

As someone from Ektlon told me a few years ago when they were explaining where One Wall Ball is heading, I took note and knew that he maybe right, but I hoped for that eleventh hour reprieve. It's not that players didn't like the game, they were isolated by that beliefs that someone would always be doing something to promote the sport. But that isn't  what is happening.

One Wall Racquetball is the game of today. There is no loyalty in the sport, where there is money and trophies, you will find the players. There is NOTHING wrong with One Wall Racquetball ! It's the same sport as Paddleball, but with a racquet. The players migrated to high ground that's all. What makes the game of Handball strong? A good organization! The USHA (United States Handball Association) understands the need to work with other groups to promote and build the sport. Why do you think Tennis has become the leading racquet sport?  MONEY! When you have good sponsors, good organizations and great players there is a mixture that goes together well.

It's January 2012, There is a few tournaments being held in Florida, The same old (40 to 62) year old players will be there. Nothing wrong with that! The blood is old,  Check out the knee wraps, the elbow braces, the wheel chair area. What the sport of One Wall Paddleball needs is to get the young kids and teens involved. Last year there was a sport's survey on one of the news channels. Kids prefer to stay home and play X-Box, Wii and Play station...  Who want to go out and get tired, sweat and have a great time. Not when I can stay home and kill one million zombies and not break a sweat!
